Interesting travel insurance requests

We have insured a number of yacht crew members who will be participating in the annual Sydney-Hobart yacht race this week.  This sort of experience requires a different type of travel insurance that will include "high risk" activities like blue water sailing.  Happily we have travel insurance products that will cover this!  The key things for a travel insurance to cover for blue water sailing are medical and evacuation costs - you need to be sure that you can be medically evacuated off the boat to the nearest appropriate hospital if something goes wrong in the middle of the ocean.

Another group we have helped into appropriate travel insurance cover is a group of road cyclists travelling to Australia to compete in semi-professional road races.  Many off-the-shelf travel insurances won't cover professional or semi-professional sportspeople so you need to be very careful to read the fine print in these cases.  Again, we were able to help source a good value and comprehensive travel policy for these guys.

Do remember though, that although we get lots of requests for people doing exciting things, we have a range of travel insurance products available for all types of travellers - from leisure travel for 7 days on a tropical island, through to high risk/professional sports cover, and everyone in between including Working Holiday Visa holders coming to New Zealand, and Kiwis heading away for their OE.  Just tell us what you need and we will source the best travel insurance suited to your requirements.

Cheers, Sandra
