Frequently Asked Questions

Why do standard travel policies exclude professional sport and extreme activities?

Standard travel insurance is designed for general leisure travel and prices accordingly. Professional sport, competitive events and high-risk activities carry a statistically higher chance of injury or medical intervention, which puts them outside the risk profile most standard insurers are willing to cover. Specialist policies are structured differently and priced to reflect the actual activity, which is why working with a broker who has access to those options makes a real difference.

Does it matter whether I am a paid professional or an amateur competitor?

Yes, and it is an important distinction. Many standard policies exclude competitive sport regardless of whether you are paid or not. Travel Insurance Brokers can explain which policy options apply to your situation, whether you are a professional athlete, a serious amateur or someone entering a one-off competitive event.

Can cover meet the entry requirements of an international sporting event?

Yes. Some international sporting events and governing bodies require athletes to hold a minimum level of insurance cover as a condition of entry. Travel Insurance Brokers can set out the options available and help you identify cover that meets those requirements.

Is cover available for high value sports equipment?

Yes. Policies can include options to cover high value sports equipment such as bicycles, skis, snowboards and similar items for damage in transit or loss and theft while travelling. Travel Insurance Brokers can explain how that cover is structured and what limits apply.

Are competitive motor sports covered?

Not at this stage. Travel Insurance Brokers does not currently have access to an underwriter who covers competitive motor sports, though this is something being actively worked towards. If motor sport cover is something you need, get in touch and Travel Insurance Brokers will let you know if the position has changed.

What if I have a pre-existing medical condition?

Pre-existing conditions are assessed on a case-by-case basis by the insurer. Travel Insurance Brokers can walk you through the assessment process so you understand what information will be needed and where you stand before you travel.

Do you charge any service fees?

No. Travel Insurance Brokers does not charge any service fees. Remuneration is received directly from the insurers. You can find full details in the Disclosure Statement
