New Zealand (NZ) is the perfect destination for outdoor enthusiasts.  With adrenaline filled adventures all over the country you will be able to soak up both the stunning scenery and our famous hospitality, while having the ultimate travel adventure.  Here are a list of some of our favourite South Island adventures:

Skydiving in Queenstown

If you love heart-stopping adventure then we recommend taking to the skies with a skydive over Queenstown. This will take you high above the town to soak in the most spectacular views. Queenstown skydiving operators are all fully qualified and have top safety records, so you can relax and enjoy the ride.

Bungy, Zipline, Flying Fox

Famously known as the Bungy capital of New Zealand, the original bungy is located in Kawarau Queenstown and the highest bungy is located at at the top of Nevis.  Queenstown has also become home to some of the world's most thrilling swinging and flying adventures. Zip through the forest at high speed on a flying fox, on the highest flying fox in the Southern Hemisphere, or try out the world's highest swing hundreds of metres above the valley floor.

New Zealand Great Walks

Some of the best hiking experiences in New Zealand are the nine iconic Great Walks, six of which are located in the South Island.  The Abel Tasman is a stunning coastal track that includes golden sand beaches and crystal clear bays. Heaphy Track has unique and diverse landscapes and fascinating plants and forests.  The incredible Routeburn Track has soaring mountain peaks and the beautiful Lake Harris. Milford track has New Zealand’s tallest waterfall, spectacular valleys and rivers and glacier-carved fiords.  The Kepler track is located in the tussock high country of Fiordland and also includes waterfalls and valleys. Lastly, the Rakiura Track has beautiful wilderness beaches, birdsong, brown Kiwis, and fascinating Maori history.

If you’re an intermediate or higher skier/boarder, check out the South Island’s heliski operators.  They will take you on an awesome scenic helicopter ride to incredible mountain ridges where you can ski open bowls and steep downhill chutes through fresh powder.  This really is the ultimate snow experience for every snowboarder or skier. Locations include backcountry terrain in the Southern Alps in Queenstown and Wanaka.

Hot Springs, Thermal Pools & Spas

Hanmer Springs offers the perfect balance of fun and relaxation, there are a selection of hot pools including aqua therapy, hexagonal pools, rock pools and sulphur pools and if you don’t feel like relaxing there are water slides as well. Plus they offer a luxurious day spa with a range of treatments, private pools, sauna and steam rooms.  Coming in 2019 are five new pools to cater for the increasing popularity of Hanmer Springs.

Tekapo Springs and hot pools overlook the beauty of Lake Tekapo and the mountains beyond. The hot pools are fed by alpine springs and heated to 28-40 degrees Celsius. With NZ’s largest inflatable waterslide, sauna & steam rooms, a fully equipped day spa.

If you’re in the South Island why not visit both!
